Drum roll please, the verdict is in and it’s as disappointing as one could imagine. How Does It Feel, is a grouping of random forced 80’s pop. In the course of trying to sound different from their debut album, Secondhand Rapture, the pair lost their sound. In short, MS MR’s sophomore album is heartbreaking.
The magic that the duo possessed back in 2012 with the release of their debut and best-known single, Hurricane, struck strongly throughout their first album. MS MR quickly gained popularity with their tracks Bones, and Fantasy, before releasing their debut, which was a mix of darkness in the vocals, pop in the rhythm, and an electric undertone that doesn’t sound quite right for the tracks. The latest album lacks depth in lyrics, vocal connection and overall thought put into the album. The dark undertone is gone and replaced with a throwback to what should have been forgotten in the 80’s. The melodies are forgettable and at times awkward, but what sticks out the most is the inauthenticity in vocalist Lizzy Plapinger’s normally soulful voice.
With the talent heard in their first album, there is hope for the future that they’ll produce something inventive about their original vintage sound that seems more natural for the band.
